Battle of Styles is an innovative dance format in which different dance styles and generations of dancers come together to demonstrate their individual abilities. It is based on the principle of the breakdance battles, but is reinterpreted. In alternating order, ballet and contemporary dancers as well as breakdancers and urban dancers compete against each other in mixed teams. A jury of experts decides on the success of the dancers and their performance. Criterias such as stage presence, technique, improvisation skills, humour and musicality are in the foreground. Battle of Styles breaks with conventional conceptions. The stage becomes an arena, the audience a co-creator of the evening. The clash of different dance styles enables a new dynamic and at the same time breaks with clichés. Diversity is created not only by the clash of street culture, ballet and contemporary scene, but also by the meeting of very different dance communities and their audiences.
